Training Data in kid-sized language

How Unit 1 of Rex & Dino's Big AI Ideas introduces AI learning without coding — and why teachers asked for it.

Children are already meeting AI-shaped tools. The gap is not “how to prompt” — it is how examples become answers.

In Training Data, Rex and Dino follow a Smart Trail that only learned from rabbit footprints. The story is funny, concrete, and fair: the tool is not evil, it is limited by what it was shown.

Classroom moves that work

  • Ask: What did the Smart Trail actually learn from?
  • Sort real vs. missing examples (activity in the unit).
  • Close with: When should a person check, not just trust the fast answer?

That last line is the bridge from SEL habits (pause, notice, repair) to AI-age judgment.
